2nd Branches of Two Major Vietnamese Hospitals Urged to Be Complete in 2024

The second facilities of the two major northern Vietnamese hospitals, namely Bach Mai and Viet Duc, must be complete before December 31, 2024, said Deputy Prime Minister Le Minh Khai.

The deputy prime minister made the order at a conference on January 9 as the two hospitals with a total combined investment of VND9 trillion ($387.93 million) have yet to be put into operation after nine years due to obstacles in settlement and fund disbursement.

Earlier in September 2022, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh asked for the establishment of a team led by the Ministry of Health to speed up the construction of these projects.

Kicked off in 2014, the two hospitals, with a scale of 1,000 beds each, are expected to ease overloads for their first branches in Hanoi. They are part of the Ministry of Health's initiative to construct five major hospitals nationwide, initiated in 2014.

Out of the five hospitals, three facilities in Ho Chi Minh City, namely City Children's Hospital worth VND4.5 trillion, Oncology Hospital Ho Chi Minh City Branch 2 valued at VND5.8 trillion, and Institute of Traumatology and Orthopedics (175 Military Hospital) worth VND2.2 trillion VND, have been operational between mid-2018 and October 2020.
