500-kg War Bomb Discovered during Vietnam's Embankment Construction

Workers unearthed a 500-kg bomb buried over two meters underground during excavation for an anti-erosion embankment in Vietnam’s central province of Ha Tinh on October 8.

The bomb was found beneath mud at a construction site along the Ngan Mo River in Cam Xuyen District in the central province.

Measuring more than two meters in length and weighing approximately 500 kg, it is believed to be a remnant of the Vietnam War. Its head and body were heavily rusted.

The discovery, made near a residential area, led local authorities to cordon off the site, install warning signs, and set up checkpoints to limit access to the dangerous area.

Officials are now formulating a plan to safely remove the bomb, transport it to a local shooting range, and carry out a controlled detonation.

Cam Xuyen District, like many areas in Ha Tinh, experienced heavy bombing during the war. Despite ongoing efforts to clear unexploded ordnance, dangerous remnants continue to be found underground.
