70% of Cancer Cases in Vietnam Detected at Late Stages: Data

More than 70% of cancer cases in Vietnam are detected at late stages, contributing to the country's lower cancer survival rates compared to developed nations.

This statistic was highlighted during Memorandum of Understanding Signing Ceremony between Supportive Fund for the cancer - Bright Future Fund and AstraZeneca Vietnam in Hanoi on August 2.

The ceremony marked a significant step towards raising awareness about early cancer screening, improving treatment effectiveness, and enhancing the quality of life for cancer patients.

Under the deal, the partnership will focus on several key initiatives, including (i) providing comprehensive healthcare programs covering nutrition, psychology, and side effect management, (ii) offering financial support solutions to reduce the financial burden on patients, thereby increasing access to and continuity of treatment, (iii) raising community awareness about early lung cancer screening and increasing the rate of early-stage lung cancer diagnoses, (iv) developing and promoting innovation and digital transformation centers, researching, and applying advanced technologies and artificial intelligence in healthcare, and (v) establishing and operating cancer patient clubs in oncology departments/centers of hospitals.

According to GLOBOCAN statistics for 2022, Vietnam recorded 180,480 new cancer cases and 120,184 cancer-related deaths. The most common cancers with increasing incidence and mortality rates annually are related to breast, liver, and lung.
