93% of People in Hanoi Outskirts Have Access to Clean Water: Center

Up to 92.7% of people living in the outskirts of the capital city had access to clean water in 2014, the Hanoi Moi newspaper reported on June 24 quoting data from the local Center for Rural Water Supply and Sanitation (CERWASS). Of the figure, 33.8% of the population had access to ‘national standard clean water’ and 80.84% of the poor people had access to ‘hygienic water’. As many as 95.4% of the households had toilets, in which 76.8% of them had hygienic toilets and over 65.2% poor households had hygienic toilets. Moreover, 98.4% of schools and 100% of health centers had hygienic water and toilets. Nearly 70.2% households have hygienic cages to raise livestock. Meanwhile, Hanoi authorities are investing in seven clean water supply projects funded by the World Bank costing total VND670 billion ($30.72 million), in addition to six other projects invested by private firms worth total VND1.38 trillion.
