Belgium Funds EUR25M for Water Management Project in Central Vietnam

The Belgian government has funded EUR25 million to help carry out a project on water management and urban development amid climate change in three central provinces of Vietnam. The project, which will be carried out in six years, aims to raise institutional capacity of water resource management and urban development amid rising manifestations of climate change impacts in Ninh Thuan, Binh Thuan and Ha Tinh provinces. It is expected to contribute to building a comprehensive strategy for climate change response and encourage local people to join climate change fight as well as promote agriculture development and improve environmental sanitations. Vietnam is listed among the five hardest-hit countries by climate change. Climate change is estimated to cost Vietnam $15 billion each year, accounting for 5% of the country’s gross domestic product (GDP).
