Bird Flu Breaks Out in Vietnam Northern Province

Bird flu A/H5N6 has broken out in Vietnam’s northern province of Lai Chau, infecting nearly a thousand poultry units in a local farm, said the Animal Health Department under Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development. Local authorities discarded all the animals at the affected farm in Binh Lu commune, Tam Duong district and applied other measures to prevent further spreading, the department said. The department noted that recently bird flu A/H5N1 occurred in Vinh Long and Ha Tinh provinces. In addition, foot-and-mouth disease has reoccurred in Nghe An, Binh Duong, Dak Lak, Soc Trang, Son La and Phu Yen, the department said. The prime minister has ordered the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development to grant 10,000 liters of Han-Iodine for Lang Son and 30 tons of Chlorine for Long An to help them protect local animal farms from being attacked of diseases. In late July and early August, floods occurred in many places in Lang Son, causing environmental pollution and helping diseases to spread. Meanwhile, since the beginning of July, shrimp diseases have been spreading in aquatic ponds in Long An, causing serious losses for local shrimp raisers.
