Bomb of 250 kg Found in North Vietnam

A man has found a 250-kilogram (500lb) bomb while digging a pond in his backyard in Haiphong in northern Vietnam. Local military officials removed the bomb to a safe disposal site after it was unearthed on July 27. Experts said the 1.5-meter-long explosive is a remnant of the Vietnam War. More than 40 years after the war, unexploded ordnance still threatens a fifth of the Vietnamese land mass and explosions occur frequently, killing more than 1,500 people every year and maiming and injuring 2,200 more, according to official data.
