CITES Vietnam, FAO to Build Software for Wildlife Farming Management in 2021

The Vietnam CITES Management Authority, under the government-run Vietnam Administration of Forestry (VNFOREST), is expected to partner with the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) to develop software for the management of wildlife farming facilities countrywide in 2021, local media reported. In 2018-2020, Vietnam has over 17,000 wildlife breeding facilities and more than 400 organizations and individuals engage in wildlife import-export. Since 2018, CITES Vietnam has received more than 3,000 documents and issued between 6,000 and 8,000 CITES permits to organizations or individuals carrying on import-export of CITES Index-regulated wildlife. CITES Vietnam will join hands with the CITES Secretariat and member countries to design an online licensing system next year. (Dan Viet)
