Cuba Wants to Send Doctors to Work in Vietnam: Cuban Deputy Minister

Cuba wants to have a Cuban doctors program with Vietnam and send its medical staff to work in the Southeast Asian country, said Deputy Minister of Health Marcia Cobas Riuz. Deputy Minister Riuz made the proposal at a workshop held by Ho Chi Minh City’s Investment and Trade Promotion Center on May 16. Welcoming Ms. Riuz’s suggestion, Deputy Director of the municipal Department of Health Nguyen Huu Hung said that HCMC will be a pioneer to receive Cuban doctors to work at local private healthcare facilities. The city has only 18 doctors per 10,000 residents, he noted. Besides, healthcare leaders of provinces such as Ninh Thuan, Ben Tre, and Dong Nai said they want to receive Cuban doctors as the localities are in need of high-quality human resources in the field. Earlier on May 14, the Cuban delegation had a meeting with Minister of Health Nguyen Thi Kim Tien in Hanoi. On May 15, they visited Vietnam-Cuba Dong Hoi Friendship Hospital in the central province of Quang Binh. (Tuoi Tre, Bao Chinh Phu, Tin Tuc)
