Denmark Helps Vietnam Train Workforce for Water Sector

The Danish International Development Agency (DANIDA)’s Business Finance (DBF) program has launched a training course for staff of six wastewater treatment and clean water supply projects in Vietnam. Funded by DBF, the wastewater treatment projects are being implemented in the Central Highlands province of Dak Lak, the central province of Quang Binh, the northern mountainous provinces of Cao Bang and Ha Giang and the Mekong Delta province of Hau Giang while the clean water supply project is being carried out in the central province of Thanh Hoa. Addressing the workshop on Sept 8 in Hanoi, Danish Commercial Counsellor in Vietnam Bo Monsted said DBF has offered financial and technical assistance and experience to many projects in Vietnam. He underlined the importance of the training program, saying that it will help improve the quality of human resources serving the six projects with the aim of resolving issues related to infrastructure development and address increasing water resources pollution to build green urban areas. Since 2014, DBF has funded Vietnam $120 million to help promote sustainable economic development, improve living conditions for local residents, prevent floods and reduce environmental pollution. Due to its fast urbanization rate, Vietnam’s urban areas are facing water shortage which is partly caused by a fall of between 1% and 2% in the underground water resources and the leakage rate of 30%. Water supply and drainage projects in Vietnam normally use foreign official development assistance. (Vietnamplus.vn Sept 8)
