Ethnic Minority Students Honored for Good Achievements

The Committee for Ethnic Minority Affairs in co-ordination with the Ministry of Education and Training and Youth Communist Union held a meeting on November 7 in Hanoi to honor 122 students from ethnic minority groups who won the national contest for gifted students and who come first in university entrance examinations for the academic year 2015. On behalf of the government, Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc lauded and highly appreciated students' efforts in studying and their families, schools and local governments that have created good conditions for them to well learn. Mr. Phuc also said that the Government and the Party regard education as a national policy of the highest priority; accordingly, they paid much attention to education especially education in disadvantaged districts where ethnic minority groups are living. Education is a key to help eliminate poverty stably and nurture talents. The Ministry of Education and Training and the Committee should re-check and propose preferential policies to discover more talented ethnic minority students, he said. Education sector should train more good teachers of schools in disadvantaged districts, said the deputy PM. It needs to have bonus and improvement policies for teachers who volunteer to teach in such districts so that they can rest assured of their living and devote to education career in difficult districts, he added.
