EU Funds Climate-resilient Smart Agro Transformation Project in Vietnam
The EU will finance the “Smart Agro-ecological Transformation of Farming Systems towards Resilience and Sustainability in Middle and Coastal Zones of the Vietnam Mekong Delta’ (STAR-FARM) project, with a total cost of VND107.6 billion ($4.48 million), state media reported.
The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), and the People’s Committee of Hau Giang province held a ceremony on December 13 to launch the project.
The project will be implemented in Dong Thap, Kien Giang, and Tra Vinh provinces within 48 months. Relevant sides will join a technical meeting on December 18-19 in Tra Vinh province to specify plans for 2024 and select districts and communes to join the project.
It aims to support policy implementation and multilateral dialogues, as well as enhance parties’ organization capability in public-private partnership (PPP) related to climate-resilient smart food system transformation.
The project’s outcomes are expected to contribute to implementing policies and orientations set by the Party and the Government in developing the Mekong Delta in response to climate change, said Mr. Nguyen Do Anh Tuan, head of the MARD’s International Cooperation Department.
