Expert Has Positive Outlook toward Vietnam-Germany Cooperation in Education
Dr. Kambiz Ghawami, president of the World University Support Organization in Germany, has expressed optimism about the prospects of Vietnam-Germany cooperation in education in an interview with Vietnam News Agency ahead of the Vietnam trip by German Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier on January 23-24.
Dr. Ghawami stated that the upcoming state visit of German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier to Vietnam would further enhance the overall cooperation between the two nations, particularly in the field of education.
The expert believed that Germany and Vietnam, with their shared history of strengthening and expanding education over centuries, should invest more in the education sector as it is a key factor for national prosperity. He emphasized that combining the strengths of both countries in an innovative way, with each contributing its expertise in education, research, and innovative creativity, would benefit both sides.
He highlighted Germany's engineering prowess and Vietnam's reputation for creativity, suggesting that the combination of these strengths would create a unique blend between the two nations.
Over the past decade, the number of Vietnamese students in Germany has increased from 2,717 in 2013 to over 7,600 at present. However, this figure only includes students holding Vietnamese passports, and there are thousands of other Vietnamese students with German passports that are not counted in official statistics.
However, the number of German students studying in Vietnam is still limited, with fewer than 50 students per year. He emphasized the need for more information and incentives to make Vietnam an attractive destination for German students to study abroad.
