First Baby in Vietnam with Prenatal Heart Surgery Born Healthy
The baby with prenatal heart surgery, the first case in Vietnam, was born healthy weighing 2.9kg on January 30 at Tu Du Hospital in Ho Chi Minh City, local media reported.
Dr. Tran Ngoc Hai, director of Tu Du Hospital, stated that the baby's condition immediately after birth was remarkable, surpassing the expectations of hospital teams.
Dr. Nguyen Thi Thanh Huong, deputy director of Children's Hospital 1, revealed that based on the doctors' previous predictions, the baby was expected to need oxygen after birth and would be transferred to Children's Hospital 1 for further intervention. However, after delivery, the baby cried loudly. The ultrasound of the heart showed that blood was flowing through the pulmonary artery valve well.
Earlier, on January 4, doctors in Ho Chi Minh City successfully performed prenatal heart surgery on a 32-week-old fetus with a severe congenital heart defect. This marked the first prenatal heart surgery in Vietnam and also Southeast Asia.
