Foreign Experts Attend Int’l Cardiovascular Conference in Central Vietnam

Up to 700 cardiologists and geriatricians from Vietnam, the U.S., the U.K., Italy and Japan have joined a two-day international conference on the treatment of cardiovascular diseases in the central province of Phu Yen. The experts delivered 50 reports on the latest research into the treatment of cardiovascular diseases affecting the elderly, and gave professional advice on the target group. Deputy Minister of Health Le Quang Cuong said that research results and knowledge shared by global experts will help Vietnam access and apply the latest interventions in the field. The conference is the second of its kind held in Vietnam so far. The first event was hosted by HCM City in 2012.
An increasing number of Vietnamese people are suffering from and dying of cardiovascular diseases. A longer life expectancy is also causing greater concern over these health problems, which typically affect the aged.
According to the International Classification of Diseases, 64.8% of elderly people in the world suffer from high blood pressure, 22.5% cardiac ischemia and 9% heart failure. (Tuoi Tre – Youth Jun 14)
