Foreign Teachers Allowed to Teach in Vietnam’s Public Schools

Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc has agreed to grant work permits to foreign teachers, which allows them to teach in the public schools, state media reported. Accordingly, foreign teachers must have at least a degree in pedagogy or equivalent one, a university degree and teaching certification. Recently, foreign teachers are teaching foreign languages at private schools or foreign language centers. Some high-quality preschools have also hired foreign teachers with 1-2 class per week. For public schools, although there is no formal approval of the government, a number of schools in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City still hire foreign teachers based on tuition agreement with parents.
