Formosa Plant in Ha Tinh Not Yet Correct All Waste Disposal Mistakes

Authorities of central province Ha Tinh on August 23 afternoon held a meeting with Taiwan’s Formosa Hung Nghiep Steel Company to discuss their shortcomings in waste disposal. At the moment, the Taiwanese-invested company has corrected 32/58 tasks concerning disposal of wastewater, gas byproduct, and solid waste. The authorities have asked the company to put an end to units still not meeting environmental protection standards. The environmental watchdog group also proposed the MONRE not to let Formosa put it plant into operation yet. The meeting was held one day after the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment (MONRE) and relevant institutions released a report saying that most of the seawater in the central region is now safe for swimming and aquaculture activities. The edibility of seafood from the region remains unclear with experts confirming that further tests were underway. (VTV News Aug 23, Danviet.vn Aug 23)
