Fulbright University Set to be Established in Vietnam

Secretary of Ho Chi Minh City (HCMC) Party Committee Dinh La Thang has recently met the chairman of the Trust for University Innovation in Vietnam Thomas Vallely to discuss preparations for the establishment of Fulbright Vietnam University (FUV) in the city, state media reported. At the meeting, Mr. Thang appreciated contributions by the Fulbright program in improving the human resource quality of Vietnam in general and HCMC in particular, adding that FUV is an important project facilitating HCMC to improve education and training quality, brand name and competitiveness. Mr. Vallely thanked the secretary for his consideration for the project adding that Fulbright and Harvard Universities had conducted many studies on Vietnam’s development, hoping that qualified studies along with FUV in the future will positively impact the development of Vietnam and HCMC also. FUV, first-ever American-style non-profit private university in Vietnam, is invested in by the Trust for University Innovation in Vietnam (TUIV), an NGO based in U.S.’s Boston. The Vietnamese government has granted FUV a 15-hectare land plot at the Saigon Hi-Tech Park in District 9. (Giao Thong – Transport April 12 p7)
