Fulbright University Vietnam Receives Establishment License

Vietnam’s Deputy Prime Minister Vu Duc Dam on May 16 signed a license to establish the Fulbright University Vietnam in the southern economic hub of Ho Chi Minh City, nearly a year since the university got its investment license and only a week before U.S. President Obama arrives in Vietnam. Accordingly, Ms. Dam Bich Thuy, former general manager of ANZ Bank Vietnam, will be the principal of the university, which will be located in the HCMC Hi-Tech Park. Fulbright University Vietnam will offer an American model of education that stresses academic independence and innovation. The school has a total investment of $70 million, of which the initial investment (until 2016) is $5.3 million, the second phase (in the 2017-2020 period) is $20 million and the third phase (in the 2020-2030 period) is $44.7 million. The university’s enrollment will begin at the end of 2016. The school’s training activities and research will focus on public policy and management, STEM disciplines (science, technical, engineering, math) and the medical, social sciences - humanities and interdisciplinary sciences. Fulbright University Vietnam is invested in by the Trust for University Innovation in Vietnam (TUIV), an NGO based in U.S.’s Boston.
