Gia Lai Opens School for Minority Students

The Central Highlands province of Gia Lai opened a boarding school for ethnic minority students from remote areas yesterday. Built in An Khe town with investment of over VND80 billion ($3.81 million), the senior high school has enrolled 300 students from the Bahnar ethnic group for the 2014-15 school year. The students will receive free textbooks, clothes and accommodation at the school, the second such institution in the province. The first school can accommodate 400 students. Central Highlands provinces have so far built 55 boarding schools for children from ethnic minority groups. According to the steering committee for the Central Highlands, 1.4 million students throughout the region have registered for the 2014-15 school year, with 461,000 students belonging to ethnic minority groups.
