Ha Nam Plans to Set up Delacour's Langur Conservation Area

Vietnam’s northern province of Ha Nam has planned to establish a Delacour's langur conservation area in Kim Bang District.

According to Le Hoang Thuyen, director of the Ha Nam Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, the decision for the area is expected to be issued in the fourth quarter of this year.

Under the plan, the Delacour's langur area will cover a total area of 3,182 hectares stretching in the communes of Thanh Son, Lien Son, Tan Son, Thi Son, Kha Phong and Ba Sao Town.

The area is aimed to preserve forest ecosystems, 41 rare plant species and 26 rare animal species, particularly the Delacour's langur.

The Delacour's langur is a unique and critically endangered primate species found exclusively in Vietnam, with a population of only around 200 individuals. At present, this species is classified as critically endangered in the 2019 IUCN Red List. (Dantri)
