Hanoi to Quickly Build Water Pipeline to Ease Shortage in Scorching Weather

Authorities in Vietnam’s capital city of Hanoi are preparing for construction of a water pipeline to ease the shortage of water that has troubled the life of roughly 70,000 households in scorching weather. In October, the city will build the pipeline along with the existing one that pumps water from Da River to the city following the repeated breaks due to low-quality Chinese material. The would-be pipeline will be 20 kilometers long going through Thach That district to provide between 80,000 and 100,000 cubic meters (cu.m) of water to people in urban Hanoi. Hanoi decided to build the pipeline after it received criticism from local people who needed to spend nighttime to catch drops of water for daily activities after the pipeline leading water from China-sourced Da river broke a week ago, the 13th time since 2012. Da River Water Plant has capacity of 500,000 cu.m per day. Hanoi’s Deputy Chairman Nguyen Quoc Hung at on Aug 21 that the city will soon kick off construction of Red River Water Plant capacity 300,000 cu.m/day. (Vov.vn Aug 22)
