Ho Chi Minh City Military Forces Defuse 350kg Wartime Bomb
Bomb disposal officers in Ho Chi Minh City in the wee hours of May 18 finally handled a 350-kilogram wartime bomb, the municipal High Command said on the same day.
The High Command of the southern hub was informed at around 4:00 pm on Friday that a local resident detected a bomb while leveling ground at a vacant plot of land in Binh Loi Commune under the outlying district of Binh Chanh.
Bomb disposal agencies, vehicles and equipment were subsequently sent to the scene where the agencies ordered the suspension of ground leveling, protected the scene, and adopted measures to defuse the bomb.
Official data from the forces showed that this wartime bomb is 1.15 meters in length, 0.41 meter in diameter, and is 350 kilograms in weight, with the explosive filling being tritonal.
After the bomb was safely handled, it was transported to a storage site for explosive materials in Cu Chi, another suburban district in the city.
The military forces also made efforts to find possible unexploded wartime bombs in the area as well as briefed local residents on regulations on promptly reporting their discovery of wartime explosives to authorities.
As per prevailing regulations, those who failed to report and hand over bombs, mines to authorities will get administrative fines of between VND10 million ($393) and VND20 million ($786).
