Hospital in South Vietnam Successfully Treats Rare Kawasaki Patient for 1st Time

Doctors at Cho Ray Hospital in Ho Chi Minh City have succeeded in treating a patient of rare Kawasaki disease, a pediatric condition that causes inflammation in the walls of some blood vessels in the body, Dr. Le Thanh Khanh Van, head of the Pediatric Cardiac Surgery Intensive Care Unit at the hospital announced on July 23.

This marked the first successful intervention for Kawasaki disease in southern Vietnam.

Patient N.N.M.D., born in 2018 from the south-central province of Khanh Hoa, was admitted to Cho Ray Hospital on June 14 with symptoms including occasional chest heaviness during exertion and bruising due to a previous anticoagulant treatment.

The surgery lasted eight hours, and one week later, the patient was able to sit up and walk independently, leading to their discharge by the end of the week.
