Illegal Logging Destroys 38Ha of Forest in Vietnam in Jan-Feb, +14% y/y: GSO

The area of forest illegally logged in Vietnam in the first two months this year rose 13.9% to 37.7 hectares from a year earlier, the government’s General Statistics Office (GSO) said in the February report. Forest fires destroyed 66.3 hectares of forest, doubling the area lost in fires in the same period last year, according to the GSO. Between January and February, the area of forest plantations reached an estimated 3,521 hectares, up 2.1% on year. Regarding plantation timber, the country harvested 875,000 cubic meters during January and February, rising 10.1% on year. (GSO Feb Edition)
