International NGOs Grant Vietnam Biggest City $44M in 2015

International non-governmental organizations (INGOs) donated a combined $43.6 million to Vietnam’s southern metropolis of Ho Chi Minh City in 2015, representing an on-year rise of 9%. The amount went to 13 projects and 171 non-project aids during the year, according to Deputy Chairman of the municipal People’s Committee Huynh Cach Mang at a meeting with INGOs on June 2. Particularly, 84% of the sum was given to municipal hospitals by large multinational pharmaceutical companies. The city has disbursed over $36.47 million of the donation. Addressing the event held by the Hochiminh City Union of Friendship Organizations, the deputy chairman affirmed that Ho Chi Minh City always encourages and creates favorable conditions for INGOs. Vice President of INGOs in Ho Chi Minh City Phung Cong Dung said the city has licensed 145 international non-governmental organizations. (Sai Gon Giai Phong – Liberated Saigon June 3)
