IUCN to Keep up Helping Vietnam Dong Thap with Flood-based Livelihood

The International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) will continue to support Phu Loi commune in Thanh Binh district of Vietnam’s Mekong Delta province of Dong Thap, in launching the model of “fish farming in flood season” to help enhance incomes of farmers, local media reported. The information was revealed at a recent meeting in Dong Thap’s Thap Muoi district to provide knowledge to locals about lotus-aquaculture cultivation in floodplain areas, with the participation of IUCN representatives. At the talks, Ms. Nguyen Thi Thuy, vice chairwoman of the Farmer’s Association of Thap Muoi district said the union will distribute VND800 million ($34,482) in loans for farmers to develop sustainable livelihood models.
