Japan Canon Builds Classrooms for Ethic Minority Students in Vietnam

Japanese camera maker Canon has opened two new classrooms at a primary school for ethnic minority students in Vietnam’s mountainous Son La Province. Canon also donated teaching and studying equipment for teachers and students at Na Cai Primary School in Yen Chau District, which is about 315 kilometers north-west of Hanoi. The school has about 68 students from several ethnic minorities ranging between grade 1 to 5. The school’s five classrooms were damaged by the recent heavy rains and flash floods. “We are very happy because it is the first time that we are allowed to use a modern camera to take a photo by ourselves,” said Nuong Van Duong, a 10-year-old student at the school. “I will study hard to become a photographer in the future.” Canon General Director Hiroshi Yokota pledged more funding for the school to improve its basic infrastructure and studying quality for students. Meanwhile, Canon has helped to improve 45 schools in Vietnam in the last six years. (bizhub.vn Aug 31)
