Japan to Fund $140M for Water Supply Project in South Vietnam

The Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) has signed a memorandum of understanding on providing $140 million to a water supply project in Vietnam’s southern province of Dong Nai. The fund will account for 85% of the total investment for Nhon Trach Water Plant, second phase, capacity 100,000 cubic meters/day. Once the second phase is in place, JICA would consider financing the third phase, JICA’s Senior Project Formulation Advisor Taro Katsurai said. The plant is expected to serve local population in Nhon Trach, an outlying district of Dong Nai, which is home to several industrial parks. Vietnam lacks safe water in urban areas as the majority of water plants is outdated, causing a loss of 27%. Only 78% of urban people access to safe water.
