The Institute for Global Environmental Strategies (IGES), which is run by the Japanese government, will support Vietnam’s central city of Danang to launch the project on building an environmental city in 2021-2030, state media reported. The information was revealed by Mr. To Van Hung, head of Danang’s Department of Natural Resources and Environment, from the recent discussion among the municipal Department of Natural Resources and Environment and representatives of the IGES, and Yokohama city. Through the talks, the Japanese side pledged to assist Danang City in constructing a low-carbon city, launching energy-savings projects, improving the energy efficiency of wastewater treatment systems and use of water monitoring data, and others. Notably, from 2021 to 2024, Danang City will continue running the project on solid waste management to promote waste sorting and recycling, creating a system of solid waste database management, piloting systems of collecting solid waste, and drafting recommendations on solid waste treatment by 2030 with the vision to 2050.
