JICA Aids Vietnam Binh Duong $8M Loan to Implement Water Supply Project

Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) on November 17 sealed a $8 million credit agreement with Binh Duong Water Environment JSC of Vietnam (BIWASE), based in Vietnam’s southern Binh Duong province, to implement the project on the extension of the provincial water supply system, state-run newswire Nhan Dan (People) reported. The project fits the “Initiative on Overseas loan and Investment for ASEAN”, which was declared in November 2019 and is financially coordinated by the Asian Development Bank (ADB). Under the plan, the fund will be spent on expanding the Tan Hiep water treatment plant in Binh Duong province, helping increase the plant’s water supply capacity to 80%. Binh Duong is home to many major industrial parks and Japanese firms. The demand for water use in the province jumps by 17% on average in the past five years. (Nhan Dan, Nhan Dan)
