JICA Helps Better ODA Use for PPP Projects in Vietnam

The Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) has taken several measures to help the Vietnamese government better use official development assistance (ODA) for public-private partnership (PPP) projects. JICA will share specific mechanisms to boost the PPP model in Vietnam, particularly in infrastructure building, JICA Chief Representative Yasuo Fujita said at a meeting with Vietnamese Deputy Prime Minister Trinh Dinh Dung in Hanoi on May 18. Mr. Fujita also made recommendations to help speed up the progress of several JICA-funded projects in Vietnam. Vietnam currently has huge demands of mobilizing resources for infrastructure in order to boost growth, Mr. Dung said, affirming that the involvement of the Vietnamese Government in PPP projects will help better the implementation of these projects. Earlier, the Asian Development Bank (ADB) and the French Development Agency (AFD) pledged to provide a $30 million loan to help Vietnam set up a fund to boost development of PPP projects, said ADB Country Director for Vietnam Eric Sidgwick.
