JICA Helps Hanoi Issue E-Bus Tickets

Authorities in Vietnam’s capital city of Hanoi will issue e-tickets for a bus route costing VND32 billion ($1.52 million) in early October under a project on running smart buses amid overloaded traffic. Hanoi’s Department of Transport will issue 200,000 e-tickets to public transport passengers on bus route No. 6, Giap Bat-Cau Gie and plans to use e-tickets for all routes from 2015. Hanoi is facing overloaded traffic due to rising private vehicles and rapid urbanization which has brought people to the inner city, leaving pressure on the infrastructure. To ease the congestion, Hanoi is building its first bus rapid traffic (BRT) project costing $55 million funded by the World Bank (WB). (Thoi Bao Kinh Te Viet Nam – Vietnam Economic Times Sept 17 p3)
