Man Injured after Accidentally Digging Up Wartime Bomb

A 54-year-old man was seriously injured after accidentally digging up a Vietnam War-era bomb in his garden in the central province of Quang Binh last Sunday, online newspaper Dan Tri reported. P.V.T. of Quang Trach District was admitted to hospital with mangled hands and multiple injuries on his head, face, neck and knees. His family said T. was digging to plant cassava when his hoe hit the bomb and set it off. Doctors said T. is out of danger. Unexploded ordnance left by the US military during the Vietnam War remains a serious problem in central Vietnam, where many people have been killed by either stepping on them accidentally or trying to defuse them to sell the metal for scrap.
