Netherlands to Assist Vietnam in Enhancing Sustainable Animal Husbandry

The Netherland will assist Vietnam in developing sustainable animal husbandry with promoted added value to boost meat export, state media reported. Joining a public private partnership (PPP) project in Vietnam soon, the Netherlands will share its expertise in food safety, slaughtering procedure, and animal healthcare services, design a program to detect and control animal diseases and to inspect the use of veterinary drugs in Vietnamese swine farms. Ms. Ina Enting from the Dutch Swine Association said the Netherlands will support Vietnam in training cadres on sustainable farming as well as on Dutch techniques in animal feed production. Vietnamese students will get the chance to visit leading animal farms in the Netherlands. Dr. Ron Dwinger from the Netherlands Food Safety Management Agency (NVWA) said that Vietnam lacks proper capacity on this field even though it has a population of 90 million people. The Southeast Asian country only has several food safety inspectors while the Netherlands, whose population is 16 million people, has 2,200 staff inspecting food standards. In the Netherlands, all food is being inspected, from farm to table, he added. (Nong Thon Ngay Nay – Countryside Today Dec 3 p12)
