Netherlands Helps Improve Water Supply Capacity in Vietnam Mekong Delta

The Dutch government and the Netherlands’ Vitens Evides International Company (VEI) will fund 90% of a $2.5-million project to improve water supply capacity in Vietnam’s Mekong Delta in 2019-2021, state media reported. In the first phase, the project, named WaterWorX, will cover three localities namely Can Tho City, Hau Giang, and Soc Trang provinces. It aims to assist water supply firms in localities to deal with climate change challenges amidst the increasing salt water intrusion, depression, and reduced levels of underground water. It will also help enhance the operational capacity of water supply firms, focusing on cutting revenue losses and improving water quality and saving power. In the second and third phases by 2030, the project will expand collaboration with water firms in other localities such as Bac Lieu, Ca Mau, and Kien Giang. However, the fund for these two phases has not yet been revealed. (Vietnam Plus)
