Netherlands Wants to Boost Ties with Vietnam in Climate Change Adaptation
The Netherlands is willing to foster cooperation with Vietnam in the field of climate change adaptation and environment, said CEO of the SNV Simon O’Connell.
The CEO made the statement while meeting with Vietnamese Minister of Natural Resources and Environment Dang Quoc Khanh recently, on the sidelines of the COP28 in Dubai.
At the meeting, Mr. Simon O’Connell proposed expanding cooperation between the SNV and the Vietnamese Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment (MoNRE) in climate change adaptation with nature-based solutions, such as using biogas.
Noting that Vietnam and the SNV have a common goal of sustainable and circular agriculture, the CEO proposed enhancing collaboration in mobilizing resources from Dutch climate financial institutions to develop the potential of sustainable farming in Vietnam.
Highly praising the Netherlands’ strength in water resources management, delta development, and climate change adaptation, Minister Khanh called on the SNV to support Vietnam in strengthening water resource management and administration, adapting to saltwater intrusion and rising sea levels in the Mekong Delta, and expanding cooperation on clean energy transition and development.
He also welcomed the proposal by SNV Simon O’Connell to attract resources from Dutch climate financial institutions and climate funds for bilateral cooperation.
