NEWSLETTER 15 - 30 May 2011

Dear Members and Friends:

Welcome to the VUFO-NGO Resource Centre Newsletter for 15 – 30 May, 2011.

We have the pleasure to announce the next INGO Forum for our members, which will take place on Friday 20 May from 14:00 to 16:30 hours. We would appreciate it if members confirm their attendance with Ms Ngan Ha at <[email protected]> or by calling 3832-8570. We need to know the final number of participants in order to secure a big enough venue.

We would like to announce several changes among INGOs' country directors in Vietnam:

On behalf of members, we have the pleasure to welcome the new Regional Representative for Brot fur die Welt (Bread for the World) in Vietnam - Laos, Mr Jan Papendieck. We wish him all the best in the position. We also thank his predecessor, Ms Ute Bartels, for her support to the VUFO-NGO Resource Centre during her time as Regional Representative. For matters concerning Bread for the World, please contact Mr Jan at <[email protected]> or Ms Yen at <[email protected]>.

We would also like to welcome Mr Peter C. Miller, who has been appointed the new Country Director for the Population Council Viet Nam. He has been with the Population Council for many years, running different international offices in population and reproductive health, including as the Country Director of PC Pakistan office and Deputy Director of PC Bangladesh office. We also thank Ms Meiwita Budiharsana, who leaves the position of Country Director, for her work in Vietnam and her support to the VUFO-NGO Resource Centre.

It is also time to welcome to Vietnam and to the VUFO-NGO Resource Centre Ms Josselyn Neukom, who is Population Services International's new Country Representative. We extend our best wishes to her predecessor, Ms Yasmin Madan, and in particular thank her for her contribution to the work of the VUFO-NGO Resource Centre through her membership of the Steering Committee. Ms Josselyn can be contacted at <[email protected]>.

We would like to again remind members of the 100 copies we received of a new directory of Vietnamese NGOs, Danh Tap Mot So To Chuc Hoi Lien Hiep Hoi va Phi Chinh Phu Viet Nam, published by the Asia Foundation and the Institute for Social Studies (Vien Nghien Cuu Xa Hoi). The directory is in Vietnamese. Members of the VUFO-NGO Resource Centre in Hanoi can still collect copies from our office at Building F1, La Thanh Hotel, 218 Doi Can. We will also make arrangements to distribute copies to members in Ho Chi Minh City. If any one is able to help by taking 20 copies to Ho Chi Minh City on a trip there, please contact the administrator, Ms Ngan Ha, at (04) 3832 8570 or email: <[email protected]>

There are four working group meetings remaining in May 2011: the Water and Sanitation Working Group will meet on May 17 (14:00) at the VUFO-NGO Resource Centre; the Disaster Management Working Group will meet on May 20 (14:00) at the VUFO-NGO Resource Centre; the HIV-AIDS Technical Working Group will meet on May 25 (13:30) at the Hanoi School of Public Health, 138 Giang Vo, Ha Noi; and the Community Based and Responsible Tourism Network will meet on May 26 (16:00) at Puku Restaurant, 16/18 Tong Duy Tan, Hanoi.
