Over 1.5% of Vietnam's Population Participate in Blood Donation in 2023

Over 1.5% of Vietnam's population participated in blood donation and 99% of the total 1.5 million blood units received in the country came from voluntary blood donors in 2023, health officials at a conference to review blood donation in Hanoi on January 12.

The National Voluntary Blood Donation Steering Committee set the 2024 goal of raising blood donation rate to 1.6%. It added that the target includes the collection of 1.6 million blood units, the voluntary blood donation rate of 99%, and a repeat donation rate exceeding 60%.

To realize these goals, Minister of Health Dao Hong Lan asked the committee to diversify communication channels across all media platforms to contribute to expanding and disseminating voluntary blood donation activities. She added that they should also ensure policies and care for voluntary blood donors and apply information technology in blood donation efforts

At the event, the Ministry of Health, the Central Vietnam Red Cross Society, and the Organ Donation Drive - Vietnam's Human Body Parts Donation Division signed a cooperation program focusing on propaganda and mobilization efforts for tissue and organ donation from Vietnamese individuals for 2024-2027.

So far, the country has established 4,530 blood donation clubs with the participation of 153,170 members.
