Positive Results from Deploying Vietnam Satellite Hospital Project since 2013

The Vietnamese health sector has recorded some notable results in the first five years of running the satellite hospital project in 2013-2020, according to the Medical Examination and Treatment Department, under the Ministry of Health. Within five years, the sector has built 161 satellite medical clinics with ten specialized wards namely tumor, surgery, heart, maternity, pediatrics, nerve, hematology, intensive care, and anti-poisoning. Thanks to technologies transfers from centrally-run hospitals, medical workers of some district-level infirmaries are able to perform organ transplant, endoscope, and feed premature babies. The sector has built 23 training centers for grassroots infirmaries to help improve physicians’ kill and provide them with modern equipment. The Examination and Treatment Department has proposed extending the project till 2025 so as to cover all localities nationwide. In 2019, big hospitals will have to enhance technology transferring to grassroots medical institutions considering as a pivotal task in hospitals’ annual assessment, along with increasing technology application and building telemedicine system in consultation, technique transferring, and training among hospitals, as required by Minister Nguyen Thi Kim Tien.
