Quang Ngai Hails NGOs’ Contributions

The central province of Quang Ngai appreciates contributions by foreign non-governmental organizations (NGOs) to its socio-economic development and poverty reduction, a provincial leader has said. At a meeting with representatives from foreign NGOs on October 4, Vice Chairwoman of the provincial People’s Committee Dinh Thi Loan said that the NGOs have also helped increase understanding about the land, people, history and culture of Quang Ngai as well as strengthen the friendship between the province and the international community. Their activities have contributed to promoting the image of a friendly, hospitable and reliable Quang Ngai province in the eyes of international friends, she added. According to Loan, the meeting offers a chance for NGO representatives to review the implementation of programs and projects as well as propose solutions to their difficulties. The province also takes this occasion to call for more assistance from NGOs to several prioritized areas. In 2012 and the first nine months of this year, 28 foreign NGOs pledged to provide over VND128 billion ($6.1 million) for 78 programs and projects in the province. Next year, Quang Ngai targets to lure VND70 billion ($3.3 million) from the organizations. (vietnamplus.vn Oct 4)
