Six Vietnam Provinces Hurt Most by Droughts, Salinization in 2015 Receive $3.8M

Vietnam’s government has decided to grant VND85 billion ($3.78 million) for six provinces which were heavily affected by severe droughts and sea water intrusion last year, state media has reported. Accordingly, the Central Highlands provinces of Dak Lak and Dak Nong will receive respective VND22.4 billion and VND17.6 billion while the central province of Quang Tri will get VND15.7 billion. The southern province of Long An will get VND9.3 billion and the two Mekong Delta provinces of An Giang and Dong Thap will take VND10.7 billion and VND9.4 billion, respectively. Last year, droughts and salinization occurred in many provinces in the central, Central Highlands, and southern regions of Vietnam, affecting hundreds of thousands of hectares of agricultural crops.
