Spanish AECID Helps Fight against Human Trafficking in Vietnam

The Vietnam Women's Union and the Spain's Agency for International Development and Co-operation (AECID) on Dec 5 launched an information campaign on fighting against human trafficking in the Southeast Asia country. The launching ceremony which opened in the northern border province of Lang Son attracted over 500 local and foreign delegates from border provinces of Lang Son, Lao Cai, Yen Bai, Bac Giang, Quang Ninh, Ha Giang, Tuyen Quang and Nghe An. Vietnam is warned of high number of women and children trafficking cases including around 65% happened in localities bordered with China. On the occasion, AECID introduced the project Ngoi Nha Binh Yen or Peaceful House for victims of human trafficking which was launched in Vietnam for nearly four years. The campaign called on all sectors, agencies and the community in the country and abroad to join hands to prevent crimes of this kind and help victims as the country reported 1,949 human trafficking cases involving 4,793 victims between 2004 and 2010.
