Sustainable Poverty Reduction Models Shared

Experience and models that effectively help people overcome poverty were shared at a seminar in the northern city of Haiphong on October 4. This is part of a project funded by the United Nations Development Programme and the Irish Embassy to support the implementation of the Government’s resolution on directions for sustainable poverty reduction in the 2011-2020 period and the National Targeted Program on Sustainable Poverty Reduction in the 2011-2015 period. Delegates shared their production models that help them get out of poverty, including the planting of bamboo for shoots or the breeding of rabbits and fish. The event also aimed at learning experience from development partners, international non-governmental organizations and offices in charge of poverty reduction programmes and projects, in order to build a cooperation mechanism in establishing and expanding effective models in the 2012-2015 period. Colonel Luong Van Manh, deputy head of the Economic Department under the Defence Ministry, said that the project has contributed to increasing the efficiency of poverty reduction programs for poor people. In the 2012-2015 period, the project will expand the implementation of effective poverty reduction models, which are expected to help increase the income of participants by 15-20%, help 10% of them get out of from poverty and create jobs for at least 25% of poor laborers.
