Switzerland, WB Sign $5M Deal to Boost Climate Adaptation in Vietnam

On November 4, Switzerland and the World Bank (WB) signed a $5 million agreement to mark a commitment to aid major Vietnamese cities in pursuing green growth and climate resilience, state media reported.

This agreement, funded by the Swiss State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (SECO), will contribute to sustainable urban development across Vietnam’s large cities.

The grant aims to support cities in sustainable growth, risk management, and climate change mitigation efforts. Key cities, including Ho Chi Minh City, Danang City, and Can Tho City, are among the primary beneficiaries.

As part of the program, the WB will establish a knowledge platform that combines international best practices in technical and operational solutions with Vietnam’s specific needs, including strategic frameworks for cities facing urban and environmental challenges.

Besides, the program will improve policymaking capacity, help mobilize diverse investment sources, and encourage knowledge-sharing across central and city governments.

WB Country Director Mariam J. Sherman emphasized the program’s goal of embedding sustainable solutions in urban planning, aiming for low-carbon and climate-adaptive growth.

Swiss Ambassador to Vietnam Thomas Gass highlighted the partnership as a reflection of Switzerland’s commitment to supporting Vietnam’s cities in green growth while strengthening climate adaptability.
