Tien Giang Families Get Free Fresh Water

Nearly 10,000 households affected by salt-water intrusion along the Cua Tieu River in the Mekong Delta’s Tien Giang Province received freshwater free of charge yesterday. The provision of freshwater to residents during this dry season, which lasts from March to May, is expected to cost the province over VND150 million ($7,000). Saltwater intrusion occurs in Go Cong Dong and Tan Phu Dong districts every year, causing a shortage of freshwater for local households, according to the provincial Sub-department of Irrigation, Storm and Flood Prevention and Control.
