UK Wants to Boost Ties in Climate Change Response with Vietnam: Official

The UK wants to strengthen the cooperation with Vietnam in responding to climate change, said Mr. Nick Bridge, UK Foreign Secretary’s Special Representative for Climate Change. Mr. Bridge, who is on a visit to Hanoi, acknowledged Vietnam’s efforts in the issue, especially in the context of more frequent occurrence of natural disasters. He suggested Vietnam further develop low-carbon economic sectors by promoting renewable energy, based on its strengths such as solar, wind, and biomass. Vietnam has joined the United Nations’ members in climate change response. The country’s nationally determined contributions (NDC) target is to reduce 8% of greenhouse emission by 2030 and the figure may increase to 25% if there is more international support.
