UNESCO Helps Vietnam Boost Vocational Education for Out-of-School Children
UNESCO Office in Vietnam and the Center for Vocational Education and Training under the Trade Union of southern Ba Ria-Vung Tau province launched an initiative on February 26 aimed at enhancing access to vocational and transferable skills for out-of-school children and youth in Vietnam, local media reported.
The program is set to operate in the southern provinces of Dong Thap and Ba Ria-Vung Tau throughout 2023-2024. Its primary objective is to bridge the gap in educational opportunities for children and youth. This initiative marks the third phase of a broader project implemented by UNESCO in the ASEAN region, following earlier phases in Indonesia (2018-2019) and Thailand (2020-2021).
Head Miki Nozawa of the education department at the UNESCO Office in Vietnam highlighted the project's potential to drive socioeconomic development in the targeted localities and the wider region.
The training programs in Ba Ria-Vung Tau province will focus on essential skills such as basic baking and cooking techniques, welding, civil electricity, industrial sewing, spa care, and restaurant service skills.
Upon completion of the program, participants will not only receive vocational certificates but will also benefit from job placement assistance and support for community integration.
With 210 students being already enrolled, the center is poised to conduct seven vocational training classes, each accommodating 35 students, beginning in Vung Tau city and Xuyen Moc district in March.
