UNESCO Starts Initiative in Reducing Plastic Waste in Vietnam Coastal Regions

UNESCO on June 8 in Hanoi initiated the “Youth and Innovation for Ocean” Initiative to promote the roles of youngsters in reducing plastic waste, improving environment, and enhancing living quality in Vietnam’s coastal regions, local media reported. Besides, the Youth and Young Professionals on Innovation, Science and Technology Platform for Resiliency (U-INSPIRE) will be launched within the framework of the Initiative, which will serve as a forum for the Vietnamese youth to share ideas about environment and national development. In Vietnam, where levels of domestic waste are growing rapidly, the United Nations Environment Program reported that up to 730,000 tons of garbage, most of which originates inland, reaches the ocean annually.
