UNICEF Wants to Enhance Support for Child Care, Protection in Vietnam: Official

The United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) always treasures its relations with Vietnam and pledges to keep supporting Vietnam in carrying out its priorities in childcare and child protection initiatives, said UNICEF Representative in Vietnam Rana Flowers.

The UNICEF official made the statement at a meeting with Ambassador Dang Hoang Giang, head of the Permanent Mission of Vietnam to the UN, in New York on April 8.

UNICEF welcomed Vietnam's initiative regarding the resolution on International Day of Play recently passed by the UN General Assembly, viewing it as a significant contribution to the international community's overarching goal of comprehensive child development. Ms. Flowers emphasized.

Ambassador Giang, for his part, commended UNICEF's crucial role and effective cooperation in childcare, education, protection, and advocacy for the rights of children in Vietnam. The ambassador highly praised Ms. Rana Flowers' individual efforts and positive contributions as the UNICEF Representative in Vietnam, especially during the complex COVID-19 pandemic.

The ambassador expressed the desire for UNICEF to continue its support for Vietnam by mobilizing resources, developing policies, and promoting specific collaborative projects to implement the outcomes of the meeting between Vice President Vo Thi Anh Xuan and UNICEF Executive Director Catherine Russell in New York in March 2024.

Both sides agreed to coordinate efforts in organizing activities to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Vietnam-UNICEF cooperation relationship.
